About
Esra Güler is an artist from Istanbul, Turkey.
She lives and works in Seattle, WA.
Esra's paintings focus on the female self-expression, creativity, and transformations. Her canvasses occupy a group of improvised characters who grapple with the issues of grief, freedom, and the restrictions brought on by one’s psyche, lineage and culture.
Highly inspired by performing arts and literature, Esra's work merges painting with theater and the intimacy of writing. As she searches for her characters through dynamic brushwork and charcoal marks, her figures reveal aspects of diasporic grief, meditations on power dynamics and selfhood.
